The Salvation Army Launch Stretch RAP

As part of National Reconciliation Week this week, The Salvation Army are launching their stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2025-28, as the Salvos look to continue the next chapter in their reconciliation journey with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

The Salvation Army will hold a Stretch RAP launch event which will act as a powerful milestone that embodies the Salvos commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and will highlight the story of The Salvos’ reconciliation journey that has led to the launching of their second national RAP.

The Salvation Army’s Reconciliation Action Plan Manager Lucy Davis said, “The aim of the Salvos’ Stretch RAP is to truly embed reconciliation activities as part of The Salvation Army’s ways of working. As an organisation that is passionate and committed to inclusion, we have continued to listen to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. An example of this is through Yarning Circles which have taken place across the Salvos in the past year, which has shaped our Stretch RAP and will guide The Salvation Army’s reconciliation initiatives for the next three years.”

“We are excited to continue our journey of reconciliation and create an inclusive future through our workplaces, faith communities and support programs that honours and respects the oldest living culture of our First peoples.”

The Salvation Army has six key commitments they are delivering as part of the Stretch RAP 3-year plan. These include:

  • Truth Telling
  • Social Justice and Advocacy
  • RAP database
  • Cultural Safety
  • Reconciliation Allied Guuyung
  • Sorry Business

Lucy Davis added, “We know that reconciliation is a continuous journey, and the Salvos are committed and dedicated to truth, accountability and meaningful change. This is our journey — blackfulla and whitefulla business. We have Gumbi (listened) and we have Bianga (yarned), and now we go back to our Gooyungs (camps) and start this healing together.”

The Salvation Army is celebrating this launch with an event held at their Box Hill Corps Division in Victoria on the afternoon of Monday 2 June.
