The Salvation Army's Support to the Inquiry into Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence

Published on
1 June 2020

The Salvation Army welcomes and supports the Government's undertaking to establish a new parliamentary Inquiry into Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence. The incidence of family violence has increased to epidemic proportions in recent years and is made worse in the wake of Covid-19 with its associated restrictions and social isolation.

The Salvation Army will be making a submission to this inquiry because we see on a day to day basis the importance of national leadership to keep women and children safe and hold perpetrators to account. Critical to the success of any policy setting is a revised National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children. The voices of victims and survivors must be heard to actually stop family violence in its tracks.

If you are concerned that someone you know is experiencing family violence:

  • Call 000 if you hear fighting, shouting or noises that sound like violence;
  • Call 1800 RESPECT or visit https://www.1800respect.org.au to learn more about how to safely reach out to someone experiencing family violence.
