With evacuation centres reopening in parts of northern NSW after a second inundation of flood waters, so many of those affected are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.

Uncertainty hangs over many of these towns as people who had already lost everything are forced to start all over again.

As our Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) reactivate in many towns to provide cooked meals and refreshments at evacuation centres, our recovery work continues.

Lismore, in northern NSW, has been particularly impacted, local Salvos and SAES teams prepared and served over 27,000 meals to evacuees and first responders during the first emergency – many people have now returned to these centres for food, shelter and emotional support once again.

Throughout the emergency and at every stage of recovery The Salvation Army will work alongside those affected to be a source of hope, to listen, and to show compassion, providing much-needed financial and practical support as they rebuild their homes and their lives.
