We all face challenges at times, and it can make a big difference to know you’re not alone. At Sydney City Salvos, we’re here to listen, walk alongside you and help you find the support you need — whether it’s a one-off concern or something more ongoing.

When you phone us, you may be told you're eligible for a voucher and directed to visit Surry Hills (Monday-Friday, 9.30am–1.30pm) or Waterloo Centre (Monday-Wednesday 9.30am–2pm) for collection.

Central Community Hub

Second Tuesday of every month, 10am–12pm

Outside Andrew’s Cathedral, Town Hall (Pitt Street)

Our Central Community Hub is your one-stop connection point. The hub brings together a range of local services and support networks in one welcoming space. The hub is a place where everyone is invited to connect, share a meal and access practical support.

Whether you’re seeking advice, assistance, or simply a friendly conversation, you’ll find representatives from Services Australia, the Department of Communities and Justice, Anglicare and many other community organisations.

Our team is here to listen and help point you toward the right services for your needs.

The Salvation Army’s free financial counselling service, Moneycare, is here to help you feel in control of your finances. We can work with you to manage your debt, develop new strategies or you may like to explore our free eBook. We can also point you in the right direction for a No Interest Loan.

Free health clinic

Every second Thursday, 10.30am

Surry Hills

Looking after your health just got easier. The clinic offers friendly, confidential support from qualified health professionals. Services may include basic health checks, advice on managing chronic conditions, referrals and general wellbeing support.

No Medicare card needed, and no bookings required. Simply drop in and add your name to the wait list.

Surry Hills

Free shower facilities available for those who need them. We provide towels and basic toiletries, just speak to our team at reception to access the service.

Please note, to ensure everyone has the chance to use the service, showers are limited to 10 minutes.

Laundry facilities and support

Surry Hills

Monday to Friday, 9.30am–12.30pm

At Surry Hills, each one-hour slot includes washing powder, one load of washing and drying using our onsite dryer.

Please note, to ensure fair access for everyone, each person is limited to two laundry sessions per week.

Bookings are essential, please speak to reception to secure a spot.

Waterloo Centre

Thanks to our partnership with Orange Sky we offer free laundry support, with their mobile laundry site at our Waterloo Centre.

No booking is needed - just drop by and the friendly Orange Sky team will help you.

Storage lockers

Monday to Friday, 9.30am–1.30pm

Surry Hills

We offer 20 secure lockers for people experiencing homelessness to safely store their belongings. Each locker fits about two suitcases and comes with a padlock and key.

Only the person named in the locker agreement can access it during opening hours. Lockers must be accessed at least twice a week, and storing food, alcohol, or drugs is not allowed.

Full terms are available at reception.

Due to high demand, lockers may not always be available. Please check with reception for current availability.

Monday to Wednesday, 9.30am–2pm

We offer free access to computers for personal use. Whether you need to check emails, apply for housing or jobs, or just get online, you're welcome to use our computers opening hours.

Simply ask staff if you need support using the computer.

This eight-part course helps you understand yourself better and build a more fulfilling life.

Each session explores personal growth topics like self-awareness, stress, grief, anger, loneliness, self-esteem, assertiveness and future planning.

You’ll learn practical skills in a supportive space, build confidence and use your strengths to face life’s challenges.

It’s more than a course — it’s a journey of transformation. Our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Need help filling out a form? Whether it’s a paper document or an online application, our friendly team is here to assist you.

Visit the Surry Hills Community Centre for free one-on-one support with a variety of forms, from housing applications and Centrelink paperwork to ID renewals and more.

No appointment needed.

Electricity and gas aid

All locations, during opening hours

Struggling to pay your electricity or gas bill due to a sudden expense or drop in income? You may be eligible for help through the NSW Government’s Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) program.

EAPA provides electronic vouchers sent directly to your energy provider to reduce your bill.

Our friendly team can help you through the process — from contacting your provider to checking if you're eligible. Criteria are set by the government and depend on your situation and account details.

Our team can help with resume writing, job applications and checking work updates. Whether you’re confident with technology or need extra help, we’re here to support you with your employment goals.

Brews and Budgets

Fortnightly, Wednesday 2.45pm

Elizabeth Street

Open to all, Brews and Budgets is where people from all financial walks of life gather to learn skills and tips from an accounting professional.

Join us for coffee, afternoon tea and a friendly discussion about saving and how to use money well. 

The session is followed by chapel at 4pm and a community meal.

Low-cost café

We believe sharing a meal can bring people together, ease loneliness and foster a sense of belonging. Whether you’re stopping by for a warm meal or a warm conversation, you will always find a place where everyone is valued.
You’re invited to enjoy a coffee, a bite to eat and a friendly chat in either of our welcoming cafés. But our cafés are more than just places to grab lunch; they’re built around community, connection and care.  

Surry Hills Café

Monday to Friday, 12–1pm

Open to everyone, our low-cost café in Surry Hills serves a delicious two-course lunch for just $2. Using fresh produce from SecondBite, we create healthy, nutritious meals with plenty of variety. With a menu that changes daily, there’s always something new to enjoy.

If budgeting is a challenge, you can set up a prepaid account. Simply add credit on payday and your lunches are sorted — simple, stress-free and one less thing to worry about.

Every Thursday, we host our free Community Connect Lunch. You’re welcome to attend

Waterloo Café

Monday to Wednesday 9.30am–2pm

Our Waterloo Café offers a delicious and affordable range of food and drinks, including freshly brewed coffee from our barista machine. It’s the perfect spot to connect with others in your community, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet coffee break.

Every Tuesday you're invited to a free lunch hosted by the Restoration Centre.

If you're doing it tough or just want to know where else you can find a meal in the city, our friendly staff are always happy to chat with you about free meal options and other local support services.
